Buying Water Pumps Made Easier: A Guide for Novices

A water pump is a useful equipment for home, agricultural, or construction use. Water pumps come in different types because of the many situations in which you may need to pump water. This means that for a novice, navigating the world of water pumps can be challenging. Careful consideration of some crucial aspects is a must when it comes to choosing the right water pump. Here is a description of the critical things you need to have in mind when buying a water pump.

Know the Types of Water Types Available

The first step to finding the ideal water pump for your needs is to know your options. While there are several types available, the primary options include transfer, high-pressure, semi-solid, and trash water pumps. Transfer water pumps can transfer large volumes of water at low pressure. They are meant to be debris free, i.e. they are designed to pump clear water. However, they can handle small solids too. These pumps are ideal for draining of small garden ponds, pools, hot tubs, and duck blinds.

High-pressure pumps, on the other hand, do what their name suggests; provide high pressure but at low volumes. The pumps can also move water over relatively longer distances. These properties make them suitable for agricultural use. Semi-solid pumps function the same way as their transfer counterparts but with the ability to handle larger solids. They are best used for pumping water out of basements. Last, trash water pumps handle the larger sized solids compared to other pumps. They are ideal for irrigation purposes and on construction sites.

Consider the Source of Power

Water pumps can be engine driven or electrically powered. Engine driven pumps rely on petrol or diesel. The primary advantage of these pumps is their portability, making them versatile for use in a range of environments. However, refuelling can be expensive, and they should not be used indoors because of the fumes. They are ideal for areas such as construction sites where the connectivity of electricity may be an issue. On the other hand, electric water pumps can be used both indoors and outdoors provided there's electrical connectivity. Their advantage over their engine driven counterparts is that unless the power is interrupted, they run for a significantly longer period. What's more, you don't have to be concerned about the costs of refuelling. While you can find portable electric water pumps, access to electricity will be required.
